Representatives from immunization clinics all over the County came in to receive awards for their vaccination achievements on July 25 at the San Diego County Immunization Initiative (I-3) Advisory Council meeting. The clinics, both public and private, were being recognized for a number of different accomplishments in immunizing their patients.
“Every day, the staff at all of these clinics show their commitment to protect children from vaccine-preventable diseases, and these awards are recognition of that commitment,” said Dr. Wilma Wooten, County Public Health Officer. “Thank you all for your dedication and hard work.”
The awards included those for achieving an immunization coverage rate of 90% or above for several of the most important childhood vaccines for 2007; sustaining a coverage rate of 80% or higher in those vaccines for the past 5 years; improving the immunization coverage rate by 10% or higher in those vaccines for 2007 and having the most complete data entry in the San Diego Immunization Registry (as measured by a 10% or less difference in coverage between medical charts and Registry records). A number of the clinics received awards in more than one category.
The San Diego County Immunization Initiative (I-3) is a local coalition of approximately 150 partner organizations working with the San Diego Immunization Branch (SDIB) of the County Health and Human Services Agency. Coalition members work together to identify and develop strategies to raise immunization (IZ) coverage for all residents of San Diego County, and thereby reduce vaccine-preventable diseases.
