Immunizations are the best way to prevent many serious and life-threatening diseases. National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) and Toddler Immunization Month (TIM) are annual observances held during the last week of April and the month of May to promote the benefits of immunizations and to focus on the importance of immunizing infants and toddlers against vaccine-preventable diseases. This year’s theme is “Immunizations: Stay On Track For A Lifetime Of Good Health!” We want to encourage a lifetime of good health with timely immunizations.
Local NIIW/TIM activities included:
4/22 - Proclamation by County Board of Supervisors
On Tuesday, April 22, Chairman Greg Cox presented a proclamation in support of NIIW/TIM to Ms. Lisa Duncan, RN, of Family Health Centers and one of the Co-Chairs of the San Diego Immunization Coalition (SDIC), a local collaboration which supports immunization activities across the county. In the document, County Board of Supervisors Chairman Greg Cox and the entire Board proclaimed April 19-26 as National Infant Immunization Week and May as Toddler Immunization Month in San Diego County. Our recipient, Lisa, talked about this year’s NIIW/TIM theme, “Immunizations: Stay On Track For A Lifetime Of Good Health” and reminded the audience of the importance of childhood and adult immunizations to help protect everyone in the community. 4/22 - Special Kids Event
Also on Tuesday, SDIC and other organizations sponsored a Special Kids Event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the San Diego Model Railroad Museum in Balboa Park. The event included reading immunization books to the children, distribution of goodie bags with immunization educational materials and the reviewing of children’s immunization records. Many children also posed as an engineer in a signboard representing a train, and had their photos taken, which were given to the kids as momentos. An estimated 50 children and some 25 adults attended the event. Three local TV stations and one radio station also sent representatives to cover the event. 4/22 - Physicians’ Webinar:

4/23 - San Diego Immunization Coalition General Meeting
The meeting celebrated the excellent work of the Coalition partners in promoting and delivering of childhood immunizations. Valuable information was shared with and presented to members. One highlight of the meeting was the honoring of two local health care providers, Children’s Primary Care Medical Group and Dr. Marcos Borrero, with "Provider of the Year" Awards for their use of innovative immunization practices, and overall support of immunization.
