Summer colds, winter colds, the flu... sometimes it seems like just about everyone you know is sick with one of these illnesses. However, it doesn’t have to be this way! There are some simple steps you should practice all year long to help protect yourself and those around you, like your family, friends and coworkers, from getting sick. And all you need to do this is just to use your common sense!
- Cover Your Cough! Be sure to cover your mouth and nose with your sleeve or a tissue - not your hands - to block a cough or sneeze.
- Wash Your Hands! Remember to wash your hands often with plenty of soap and warm water for at least 15 seconds, especially after using the bathroom and before preparing food or eating.
- Take Care of Yourself! Get plenty of rest, drink lots of water, eat a healthy diet (including plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables) and exercise regularly.
- Stay Home When You Are Sick! It’s a good way to keep from spreading colds and other illnesses.
Some people may think that these precautions are only necessary during flu season, but that’s just not true. Practicing these all through the year can help keep you and those around you healthy! So, Do Your Part...Be Health Smart!
