On December 13, 2007 Merck announced a voluntary recall of certain lots of Hib vaccine. This recall has now resulted in a nationwide shortage of Hib. Consequently, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) recommended that physicians defer the booster Hib vaccine dose usually given at 12-15 months. This recommendation directly affects child care immunization requirements here in California. Please see below for more information about the Special Schedule that is expected to stay in effect throughout 2008.
