  TRAVEL IMMUNIZATIONS AND MEDICATIONS

Plan ahead and take precautions!
Make an appointment to get needed travel vaccines as soon as you begin planning your trip!

It is a good idea to know which immunizations are recommended before you travel outside the U.S. Follow these steps to find out what travel shots and medications you may need and where to get them:

Step 1: Review immunization requirements and/or recommendations for your travel itinerary
.
There are several good sources of information including reliable web sites which offer up-to-date, accurate travel immunization information. The first is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Traveler’s Health site at:

http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/default.aspx

CDC also maintains a 24-hour, toll-free International Travelers’ Health Automated Information Line at (877) 394-8747.

Travel Medicine is another resource. Visit:

http://www.travmed.com

and click on the “Travel Health Guide” link for information.

Step 2: Check with your personal physician regarding the needed immunizations.

Kaiser Health Plan members should call the Kaiser Travel Line (619) 528-3184 for advice and appointments.

Step 3: Locate a travel physician.

The County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) Public Health Centers do not provide the vaccines needed for travel. Please click on the following links to locate fee-for-service travel physicians by geographic region. The sites listed are for information only and are not intended as an endorsement by the County of San Diego HHSA. All providers listed have the CA State Uniform Stamp for yellow fever issued by the State of California Department of Health Services.

Step 4: Additional information

County residents can call (619) 692-8661 to speak with a public health nurse for additional information about the vaccines or other protective measures for travel outside the United States.
